Retail financial audit
On-site retail financial audit
A full store visit covering tills, floats, safe counts, selected stock lines, and a written variance report for management.
Who this audit is for
Owners, area managers, and finance teams who suspect leakage at a specific outlet — or who simply want an independent count before peak season, a franchise transfer, or a manager change. The work is physical and procedural: drawers, safes, float bags, POS close reports, and a sample of high-risk stock.
Result you walk away with
A store-level report that states what was counted, where it differed from your records, which controls failed in practice, and which follow-ups belong to store managers versus head-office finance. We do not rewrite your ledgers; we document what the location held on the day of the visit.
Scope included
- Pre-visit brief covering till count, safe access, and whether inventory sampling is required
- Observation of end-of-day or start-of-day cash procedures with the duty manager present
- Full count of floats, till drawers, and declared safe contents
- Reconciliation against POS Z-reports or equivalent close summaries
- Spot sampling of high-shrink or high-value SKUs when inventory is in scope
- Written findings within two business days of the visit
Out of scope
- Statutory company audits or tax filings
- Continuous CCTV investigation or staff disciplinary hearings
- Full wall-to-wall stocktakes of large warehouses
- Software implementation or POS configuration changes
How the visit runs
- Intake — You confirm the address, number of cash points, preferred after-close or before-open window, and contact on site.
- Arrival — The field auditor introduces themselves, reviews access rules, and freezes the count window with the duty manager.
- Cash work — Floats and drawers are counted, variances logged, and safe contents compared to the last logged balance.
- Stock sample (if booked) — Selected lines are counted against the stock file for that location.
- Debrief — Immediate verbal notes are shared before the auditor leaves; the formal report follows.
Preparation
Have POS close reports ready, identify who holds safe keys, and tell staff that an independent count will take place. If inventory is included, freeze receiving and transfers for the sampled categories during the count window.
Constraints
Same-day multi-store coverage depends on travel time between districts. Luxury concessions inside malls may require landlord access passes arranged by you. Visits during typhoon signal No. 8 or higher are rescheduled without a visit fee.
